Itinerary
Day 1: Salt Lake City
Today our winter adventure begins as you arrive at the Salt Lake Airport and meet your tour escort at baggage claim. At 2:30 pm depart for a tour of Salt Lake City including all the highlights. This evening joins the group for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2: Mormon Tabernacle Choir - West Yellowstone
A once in a lifetime opportunity awaits us this morning! Seating has been arranged for us at Temple Square, where we will have a chance to hear the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir's weekly broadcast performance. (Choir’s schedule permitting). Then we’ll depart the Wasatch Mountains and drive north past the Great Salt Lake, Hill Air Force Base, and Utah's first settlement, Ogden. Soon we will enter Idaho and travel through the potato-producing fields of the Gem State. Continue north to the Island Park Region which is world-famous for its outstanding trout fishing on the Madison and Henry’s Fork Rivers. After going over Targhee Pass we will enter Montana and the town of West Yellowstone, the western gate of our nation's first national park with the evening free on own (B, D)
Day 3: Yellowstone National Park by Snowcoach
This is your day to discover Yellowstone National Park, America's oldest and most famous national park, via snowcoach. The heated snowcoaches provide a clear view, moving easily across the snow while listening to the insights of an experienced Yellowstone guide. Visit some of the landmarks for which Yellowstone is famous including Firehole Falls, Fountain Paint Pots and the world's most famous geyser, Old Faithful. There will be plenty of time to witness Old Faithful's dramatic display, have your included box lunch, and explore the area. In the afternoon, enjoy a return trip to West Yellowstone with additional picture stops along the way. Arrive in West Yellowstone with the evening free on own. (B, BoxL)
Day 4: Elk Refuge - Jackson
Enjoy a beautiful winter day as you depart West Yellowstone and travel to the western town of Jackson located at the base of the rugged Teton Mountains. After some free time for lunch on own in town, enjoy a fantastic winter experience. Just a couple miles north of Jackson is the National Elk Refuge, winter home for thousands of these majestic animals. Get a close-up view as you take a horse drawn sleigh ride right into the massive heard on the Elk Refuge. Your sleigh driver and guide will explain how the settling the Jackson Valley affected the elk herd’s winter migration and why the refuge now plays an important role in their survival. After your unique experience, return to Jackson and check into your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the evening on your own. Explore the many shops, art galleries and local restaurants. (B)
Day 5: Olympic Park - Salt Lake City
Depart Jackson this morning and travel through western Wyoming surrounded by silver streams, soaring peaks, and lush meadows. Drive through the rugged Snake River Canyon, stopping in pastoral Starr Valley. Arrive in Evanston for lunch on your own, then travel to Utah Olympic Park near Park City. Enjoy a guided tour of this amazing facility that hosted events for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and continues to host World Cup events. Many of the guides are winter Olympians in training. You will see the Utah Ski and Olympic Museum, three Nordic Jumps along with the Bobsled and Luge Track, which has some of the fastest ice on earth. Return to Salt Lake City for one final night. This evening joins the group for a farewell dinner. (B, D)
Day 6: Journey Home
Transfer to the Salt Lake Airport using the complimentary airport shuttle to arrive at the airport approximately 1.5 - 2 hours prior to your departure time. As you travel home, remember all the wonderful memories and friends you have met on your fabulous Yellowstone in Winter Vacation! (B)
Please Note - * This tour requires average physical activity. Participants should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground or unpaved trails as well as on snow and ice. This is a winter tour, participants should come prepared for cold weather. This tour covers areas of higher altitudes including overnight locations above 6,000 ft. and touring above 8,000 ft.
