Itinerary
Day 1: Denver, CO - Fort Laramie, WY - Torrington, WY
Welcome to the “Mile-High City” and the Denver International Airport. Once you arrive you will meet your Western Leisure Tour Director and leave at noon to head toward the Cowboy State! Our first stop will be the Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center, one of the top welcome centers in the country. We will then make our way to Fort Laramie. After touring Fort Laramie, we travel to Torrington for the night. Enjoy a welcome dinner with the group tonight! (D)
Day 2: Devils Tower
After a hearty breakfast we will continue north along the eastern part of Wyoming to Sundance. You’ll be immersed back in time during the days of Sundance Kid and the Wild Bunch! We will then make our way to America’s first National Monument, Devils Tower. Here you will have a chance to learn a little more of the history, geology, and folklore surrounding this spot that was so sacred to the Indians. After visiting the awe-inspiring Devils Tower, we will check into our hotel in Gillette, freshen up, and get ready for a real treat as you will meet back up with the group for a special catered dinner and experience at Big Lost Meadery. Day 3: Cody, WY
This morning, travel through the countryside that Buffalo Bill loved so well and see cowboys and sheep herders working stock amidst rolling blankets of seasonal flowers in these high-altitude grasslands. We will make a stop in Sheridan for a rest and a city tour before entering in the Big Horn Mountain Range. Later, arrive in Cody, Wyoming, and tour one of the premier museums of the west, the Buffalo Bill Historic Center. Included in the collection is the Whitney Art Gallery, the Plains Indian Museum, Winchester Gun exhibit and The William Fredric Cody Wing. See many of the personal belongings of the famous buffalo hunter. Tonight, you will have time to explore this historic downtown, attend a rodeo or turn in early for the night on your own. (B, L)
Day 4: Yellowstone National Park
Today enter the world's first national park, Yellowstone National Park. You'll begin your Yellowstone experience by skirting the crystal-clear Yellowstone Lake. Soon you will follow the Yellowstone River through Hayden Valley, home of large herds of North American Bison (Buffalo). Your tour next takes you to the impressive Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. After viewing the wonders of Yellowstone, travel to West Yellowstone for your overnight accommodations. This evening is free for dinner and exploring on your own. (B)
Day 5: Yellowstone National Park - Grand Tetons National Park - Jackson, WY
Begin your day with more breathtaking views inside the park as you make your way to the colorful Fountain Paint Pots, one of the most complete collections of thermal features in the park. Then depart to Yellowstone's famous landmark, Old Faithful. Take time to enjoy the geyser's hourly display and a leisurely lunch at the Old Faithful Inn. Yellowstone's southernmost boundaries join the Grand Teton National Park to guarantee you an afternoon of unsurpassed scenic beauty. As you travel through the Tetons you will see America's youngest and most rugged mountains piercing the clouds in majestic splendor. Arrive in the Old West town of Jackson Hole late this afternoon where the rest of the evening is free to browse in the many unique and charming shops, all of which stay open late. (B)
Day 6: Wild Horse Sanctuary - Casper, WY
Today we say goodbye to the majestic Grand Tetons as we enter the wide-open plains that Wyoming. Our first stop this morning will be at the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Lander. We’ll see real wild mustangs up-close and learn about Native American culture. After our tour through the sanctuary we will follow the old pioneer trails past Devils Gate, the Mormon Handcart site into Casper Wyoming. Here we will visit the National Trails Interpretive Center where we will learn all about how and why the Mormon, Oregon, California and Pony Express Trails converge into this beautiful town. Then we’re in for a real treat – Here, the group will transfer to handmade covered wagons to experience pioneer life. We’ll end the experience with a traditional Dutch-oven cookout. Return to Casper for our overnight stay. (B, D)
Day 7: Casper, WY - Cheyenne, WY
Giddy up, today we will leave the picturesque mountain town of Casper for the Capitol of Wyoming, Cheyenne. On our way we will make our first stop at the Terry Bison Ranch. You will ride one of the custom-built trains out to their local bison herds, while also getting to see ostriches, camels, and other fun farm production animals. After mingling with the bison, we will head into Cheyenne’s Historic Downtown where we will have a trolley waiting for us to board and take us on the Wild West History Trolley Tour. Following your tour, enjoy a visit to the Cheyenne Depot Museum. (B)
Day 8: Home
After breakfast you will transfer to the Denver International Airport for your departure home. What an amazing adventure through Wild West Wyoming! (B)
Please Note - * This tour requires average physical activity. Participants should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly over uneven ground or unpaved trails.
